What is Apiculture?
The keeping of bees, especially on the commercial level.  Apiculture has the Latin roots apis "bee" and cultura "cultivation through education.

What is meant by a bee caste?
caste, n. a social position. One of the distinct forms among polymorphous social insects ( bees, wasps, ants) performing a specialized function in the colony.  The castes of the bee colony are queen, worker, and drone.

Okay, what's polymorphous?
polymorphous adj. having or passing through various forms or stages of development.  The bee metamorphoses (complete change of form) from an egg to a larva to a pupa to an adult.

What is a dearth?
Dearth, n. lack of food, famine.  In beekeeping it refers to when there is little or no nectar and pollen available, either due to the season or the weather.   Winter is the longest dearth of the year.

What’s the difference between buying a nucleus colony (nuc) and buying a 3-pound package of bees?
Packaged bees come with a mated queen and 7-8,000 worker bees. On the other hand, a nuc comes with a mated, laying queen and 7-8,000 workers; plus three frames of brood - which can yield an additional 7-12,000 bees.
